Ethical Woodworking & Sustainable Craftsmanship
At Bushveld Turnery, we celebrate the rich diversity of indigenous South African hardwoods, many of which have been overlooked in favor of commercial timber plantations. Our handcrafted wood products highlight the natural beauty of these rare and underutilized species—without the need for large slabs or beams—making it possible to work sustainably and responsibly.
We are committed to eco-friendly woodworking practices by using salvaged wood sourced from bush clearings, fence repairs, road maintenance, and new construction sites. This ethical approach to wood sourcing helps reduce deforestation, supports biodiversity, and ensures that no usable wood goes to waste. It’s a best practice that lines up with our values of sustainable living and environmental stewardship.
Every piece of wood we recover is carefully repurposed into unique, handcrafted items. Offcuts are transformed into smaller products, and anything unusable is returned to the bush to biodegrade naturally, enriching the soil and supporting local ecosystems. Even our wood shavings and sawdust are composted and used to germinate indigenous trees, which we replant in disturbed areas or where alien invasive species have been removed—helping to restore the natural balance of the veld.
By choosing Bushveld Turnery, you're supporting a business that values ethical sourcing, sustainable craftsmanship, and the revival of indigenous wood species—all while contributing to a healthier planet.
